Program

Joseph and His Brethren is a biblical drama in three acts, written by Elam Rotem in the spirit of the revolutionary music of early Baroque and opera. The work was written and performed for the first time in 2012 by the Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra and Profeti della quinta and was a huge success both from the large audiences who flocked to the concerts and from the critics who praised the work in the media. Since then, it has been performed several times in Switzerland and its recording on the “Pan Classics” label received excellent reviews.
In his work ” Joseph and His Brethren ” Rotem demonstrates an astonishing mastery of the language of early Italian opera, along with originality and rich imagination. The text of the piece taken from the book of Genesis is based on the story of Joseph – one of the most moving stories in the Bible. The combination of the biblical Hebrew language with the world of sounds, which seems to have been reborn here, 400 years after Monteverdi or Cavalieri, creates a wonderful, exciting and unique musical experience and It is contemporary.
